Plans to launch Ireland's first indoor snowdome are set to revolutionise snowsports for the Emerald Isle in Tyrrelstown, close to Dublin. Using the template of similar successful ventures in England such as the Xscape centres and Manchester's Chill Factore, Snowtopia is expected to pull over a million enthusiasts each year and hopes to offer snowy escapism from the bleak clutches of recession. These plans have come under scrutiny from sceptics, but Rick Larkin, the developer's financial director remains confident and stands by the positive remit of Snowtopia. 'Even if things get really bad, most people will still be working and will spend money on entertainment, especially if it's low cost.' The centre is also set to accommodate a paintballing arena and Ireland's first digital theatre and hopes to create around 1,000 new jobs.
