Following the tragic death of gifted student Rachel Ward in Val D'Isere last week, the ethos of the tour operator responsible for the student's holiday, On The Piste, has been called into question. According to the Daily Telegraph, On The Piste's website boasts that 'a typical rep would arise at 8am to deliver bread to the guests for breakfast and then not go to bed til 4am.' So can this company really be deemed as a suitable chaperone when to provide 'wintersports holidays for school groups' as well as for students and graduates? On the Piste, as the name suggests, have always emphasised a heady, alcohol saturated social schedule during their holidays. Since the incident last week, On The Piste have surreptitiously toned down their website, normally emblazoned with trademark pictures of intoxicated students in favour of a more conservative approach.
