Colorado's Copper Mountain is well ahead of its game in the safety statistics, becoming America's second mountain to launch the Flaik satellite tracking system, along with Steamboat, another tentacle of the Intrawest family,. This is really good news for a divided mountain like Copper, whose difficult terrain is often navigated by over- zealous rookie skiers and boarders, who sometimes lose their way. The rough terrain has often caused problems and according to JP Chevalier, the director of Copper's Ski and Board School, these are about to be remedied with 'flaik', the first tracking system to successfully integrate mobile technology and GPS to reliably increase performance and safety. So Mum and Dad can relax at last.
