FIS World Champs' opening day a success in Val D'Isere

Celebrating its 40th year of ski competitions, the FIS Champs kicked off yesterday in Val D?Isere with an opening ceremony featuring special guests including FIS president Franco Kaspar and Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, the French Health, Youth and Sport Minister. In an interview with swissinfo, Kaspar admitted that there had 'been numerous organisational problems in Val D'Isere at the start... disputes between the two biggest families that control the ski resorts [which] marred the organisation,' but 'since then the new committee and the regional authorities have done an extraordinary job and won back lost preparation time.' So, if everyone?s ready, let the games begin.....
