Around 200 hardy back country skiers are set to take on the annual Elk Mountains Grand Traverse challenge at midnight on 27th March. The rugged 40 mile back country race will take the brave explorers from the start Crested Butte, through the Rockies and over the 12,303ft Star Pass hopefully to cross the finish line just in time for breakfast in Aspen approximately seven hours later. Only 100 teams of two are allowed to participate and the event is already sold out. If you want to participate, you will have to wait until 1 December to register for the 2010 race.
