John Kucera became the 9th Canadian ever to snag the top spot at the World Championships this weekend, tearing up Face de Bellevarde in a lightening 2 minutes 7.01 seconds. This is a welcome first win of the season for Team Canada, but the title's sovereignty was in jeopardy for an hour as Michael Walchhofer of Austria was given another chance to race due to fog delay. Walchhofer was Kucera's main rival after finishing a mere 1.84 seconds after the Canadian in the first run, but ended up 9th after skiing his second chance. Says Kucera of the wait, 'I was definitely nervous when Walchhofer came down the second time. To get my first downhill podium in a World Championship is unbelievable!'
