An investigation is underway following the death of 4 students in the French resort of Valmeinier last week due to an avalanche. The group of 7 students from the Savoie region were ski touring above the resort. 8 ski tourers have died since the weekend in three separate incidents. The avalanche was caused because fresh snow at high altitude conditions has remained unstable. The avalanche risk had been reported as considerable for the week. A survivor of the incident is helping officers with their investigation.
