During my three year degree at University, I was probably more interested in the extra-curricular activities than I was in my degree. But then again, my favourite extra-curricular activity was snowboarding with the Uni Ski & Snowboard Club and my degree was in Maths & Economics. You do the math (because I certainly was not)!
Much to the annoyance of the Parentals, I took on the role of Social Secretary of the Club in my final year. Mum's comments were along the lines of: 'Great...that is all Sarah needs, a genuine excuse for drinking and snowboarding more.'
In my role as Social Secretary, I was approached by SnowSkool to work as one of their student reps. SnowSkool runs ski instructor courses and snowboard instructor courses at top resorts in Canada, France and New Zealand. Basically, my job was to spread the SnowSkool love throughout the Uni ski & snowboard club as well as throughout the wider student community. As a lifelong social butterfly, speaking to people about skiing was never going to be an arduous task and the guys at SnowSkool sent through a great little package to help me persuade my fellow students to sign up to one of their snowboard or ski instructor courses. Everyone's a winner!
Along with some of their promotional literature, SnowSkool sent through lots of little corporate goodies: hooded-tops, keyrings, bottle openers and stickers for me to share with my peers. But I must admit that my eye was on the main prize...the top SnowSkool Uni rep from fifteen or so Unis would be sent (WITH A FRIEND!) for an all-expenses paid 10-day holiday in Banff, Canada! That is what I am talking about!!!
SnowSkool HQ, sent through some great ideas about how to drum up some sales but also advised that the winner of the trip for two would be someone who went above and beyond the call of duty.
It was great fun...I wore my SnowSkool hoodies all the time and tried to speak to as many people as possible about the courses. I distributed the flyers throughout the library, send out messages and even managed to get on the student radio to try to get the SnowSkool message across. I made my first sale about six weeks after the term started and, since then, I have been banging them out left, right and centre! At last count, I had sold two trips for SnowSkool's New Zealand course, four for Canada (Big White and Banff) and one for their BASI course in France. I am currently the leading SnowSkool Uni rep and am confident of bagging that holiday.
On a sidenote, I was contacted by Phil, the SnowSkool boss about working for SnowSkool on a full-time basis after graduating because he was 'so impressed by my work over the past year or so.'
So, Mother...it would turn out that my extra-curricular activities are not all about drinking and snowboarding!
